Assistant Director of Educational Programs

General Summary

The Assistant Director of Educational Programs manages all facets of the educational and curricular initiatives that form the core of BMC’s mission. This position directly supports the Senior Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs in shaping and executing the Brevard Music Center’s (BMC) educational vision, delivering an unparalleled learning experience for all students. The primary emphasis of this role focuses on the direction and management of the day-to-day operations of BMC's summer educational programs. Other priorities include collaborating on the development of performance and educational schedules, assisting in the recommendation and selection of seasonal faculty and repertoire, and developing new educational activities and ventures during the summer and year round. The Assistant Director of Educational Programs collaborates with the Director of Admissions & Student Services to enhance student recruitment and enrollment. Additionally, this role involves the management of staff and faculty who directly support BMC’s educational mission and student development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs to design and implement BMC’s educational goals and objectives, aligning with the institution's mission to provide a transformative educational experience for aspiring musicians.
  • Manage the educational and curricular aspects of BMC’s summer programs, ensuring a structured, enriching experience for students.
  • Facilitate faculty and student engagement, coordinate classes, and develop opportunities for students to further their musical and professional development.
  • Supervise educational summer staff, providing leadership to ensure smooth delivery of all student-focused programs.
  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Artistic Operations, and Manager of Campus Operations to manage housing assignments and support faculty, staff, and intern arrivals and departures.
  • Organize and manage guest artist masterclasses and seminars that align with BMC’s educational objectives, offering students exposure to leading professionals in the field.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to identify recruitment priorities and meet enrollment goals that support a diverse and talented student body.
  • Support the development of content for the educational program’s website and materials to enhance student and faculty engagement.
  • Participate in summer operational meetings to ensure seamless integration of educational programming with concert operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external partners to strengthen BMC’s educational initiatives and reputation.
  • Prepare reports and presentations as required.
  • Develop new educational initiatives during the summer festival and year round that add value to existing programs and increase overall revenue potential.      
  • Perform other duties to advance the educational mission of BMC, as assigned by the President/CEO and the Senior Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music performance, music education, arts administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in educational leadership within a performing arts or higher education institution, combining expertise in music performance, teaching, and administration.
  • Deep knowledge of orchestral and chamber music repertoire and a passion for fostering the next generation of musicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage educational programs that inspire and support student growth.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills to create and adapt educational initiatives.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Experience coordinating masterclasses, workshops, and other performance-based educational activities.
  • Proficiency in creating educational content, including curricula, program guides, and grant proposal sections.
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with database, spreadsheet, design, and word processing software, as well as Google Suite.

Working Conditions

  • Based primarily at BMC’s main office, with regular travel to other locations for meetings, educational events, and program coordination.
  • Occasional overnight travel for auditions, music events, or conferences.
  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends, are required during BMC’s summer season.
  • Reports to the Senior Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Brevard Music Center is a summer institute and festival. Over four hundred young musicians from around the country come each summer to study and perform in over 80 concerts ranging from orchestra to opera, chamber music and pops.
