Costume Coordinator and Shop Manager
Dates of Employment: Approximately May 22 – August 8, 2025
Reports To: Director of Production
Supports: Costume Department, Janiec Opera Company
Summary
The Costume Coordinator and Shop Manager oversees the Costume Shop and helps facilitate a positive and enjoyable Costume Shop environment. The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Brevard Music Center Costume Shop and supervises all activities associated with the shop. The Costume Shop Manager schedules and manages Costume Apprentices, instructs them in the technical aspects of costume construction and the proper and safe use of associated machinery, and evaluates their work. The Costume Shop Manager also oversees the Wardrobe Supervisor. Holistic effective communication and dissemination of information is essential to the successful execution of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee implementation of rental costume packages needed for each of three mainstage productions.
- Manage the organization and workflow of the Costume Shop.
- Supervise Wardrobe Supervisor and Costume Apprentices.
- Ensure that sufficient quantities and types of materials are on-hand for use in the costume shop by maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials required for daily operations and ordering replacement items as necessary.
- Promote preventive maintenance as a strategy in maintaining costume shop tools and machinery by performing and/or directing others to perform the routine maintenance and cleaning of all tools and equipment in the costume shop.
- Supervise any Production Assistants and Work Study students that choose to do their hours in the Costume Shop.
- Work on run crew for all shows as needed.
- Supervise the cutting, draping and alterations of any/all built or modified costumes.
- Attend all Production Meetings and additional meetings as directed.
- Coordinate/Design student concerts as assigned, maintain approved budget for these shows.
- Maintain all inventories.
- Supervised by the Director of Production.

- Able to take instruction and feedback from supervisors and use it to improve your job performance.
- Understanding of channels of communication and the importance of clear and open communication.
- Maintain calm under pressure and receive/ intake information from multiple sources that you quickly prioritize and relay to Technical Director or Director of Production/act upon if deemed appropriate.
- Above all, must possess a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and ability to work well in a team dynamic.
Requirements
- Complete satisfactory background check
- Must have valid state driver's license and possess a clean driving record
Compensation
- Includes a season stipend paid bi-weekly, full board, and on-campus housing
